For the first time since Christmas 2019, we were delighted to be able to welcome parents, past pupils, members of our local Parish and friends of Dominican College to Star of The Sea Church on the evening of Monday 19th December and our own school pupils on the morning of Tuesday 20th December to celebrate once again with us our annual Christmas Carol Service.
The 2022 Dominican Carol Service allowed us to showcase the exceptional talents of our junior and senior choirs across a range of stunning carols. More than 100 pupils were involved in total in the junior choir, junior chamber choir, senior choir and senior chamber choir and a further 13 played in the string group- this amounts to 1 pupil in 6 within the college involved in the music and many more involved in the readings and prayers.
Reflecting the inclusive and special nature of our school, we had a series of pupils speaking at the service in their native tongue telling us about the particular Christmas traditions in their native countries. Pupils spoke about Christmas in Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Poland, Mexico, Bulgaria, Argentina and Ukraine. As a school we also reflected on our sister school in Myanmar at this time.
A sincere thank you and well done to all our pupils for helping us to showcase what makes our school so unique.
A special thank you to Mr Cloughley, Miss Minihan and all the members of the Music department for their vision and commitment to bringing this year’s Carol Service to life and to Ms Rainey and the members of the RE Department for their work in planning the services this year.
We would like to thank in a special way Fr. Kevin McGuckien and all the members of Star of The Sea parish for allowing us to use the beautiful setting of the church for our service this year.
We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful generosity of last night’s congregation- collectively they helped us raise £730 that will go to our sister school in Myanmar.
It was so good to be back!
