Drama Festival 2023

Drama Festival 2023 Showcases a Wealth of Talent at DCP.

Today at a special Key Stage 3 Assembly we were able to celebrate both the sporting and dramatic talents of our pupils. Following on form a very successful Drama Festival on Wednesday 28th June, today we awarded the prestigious Rosaleen Corrigan Award, an award which recognises an individual or group who encompass the spirit of drama; helping and encouraging one another, inspiring each other and entertaining an audience. This award was presented to year 10(2) for their rendition of “Dancing Queen” yesterday- a performance that had the audience clapping along and the judges on their toes!

Mrs Anderson, Head of Drama spoke of her great pride and joy at how well the festival, a long-standing Dominican tradition had passed off: “I just wanted to thank everyone for their support of the ARTS FESTIVAL 2023. Today was lovely. It was a pleasure to be able to welcome back our very own Hannah McClean to Dominican and to congratulate her also on her acting career most notably her role in the BBC series “Blue Lights”. It was also a privilege to be able to welcome Mr Jack Murphy to the school for the first time; Jack is a very successful choreographer who has worked with big shows both on stage and screen. Both judges were in awe of our school and in fact, Jack Murphy was very emotional as he couldn’t believe how supportive our children were of each other. It was great to have Mr Fleming our Chair of Governors with us also and he too as blown away by the enthusiasm our students displayed.”

Mrs Anderson explained to the Key stage 3 pupils that the Rosaleen Corrigan award was donated to the school by her children to promote and celebrate drama and the arts in school.  “Mrs Corrigan was someone, ahead of her time, who had a real vision of the importance of Drama within education and, in line with her Dominican ethos, saw this as something for everyone. This is a belief that we continue to instil into our C21st Dominican students. Well done 10(2) and all our Key Stage 3 pupils for helping to carry forward the flame”

Overall each and every one of our pupils had great fun rehearsing and performing their productions and the 2023 Drama Festival celebrated the talents of all the classes.

A special thank you also to all our amazing staff and of course, the Drama Department.

Year 10(2) are pictured with their award along with some other groups in action yesterday.
