Following a collaboration between the ICT and Technology departments, 9 Y10 girls attended the ‘Girls in Electronics’ event at Queen’s University, Belfast, on Friday, 21st June. The event was organized by the UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF) and supported by Apple, alongside 16 partner universities. Our girls listened to a talk from an Apple representative about future career opportunities, an opportunity to explore a carousel of activities in the Queen’s Ashby Building including Augmented Reality (AR) Technology, Soldering and Robotics.
The ‘Girls in Electronics’ event inspires young women to consider Electronic Engineering as a degree and a career. The day included the following activities:
- Attending a sample undergraduate lecture delivered by a senior academic.
- Hearing from current female students about their experiences in the field.
- Touring the university department and seeing state-of-the-art research facilities.
- Learning about career opportunities by hearing from UKESF Scholars.
- Participating in a ‘hands on’ introduction session focused on microcontrollers.
Thanks to Miss McFerran and Miss Kerr-Scullion for taking the girls to Belfast.
