This exciting initiative allows Sixth Form pupils to make a real impact in the school by sharing their technical skills with younger pupils in Years 8 and 9. As mentors, they will play a key role in helping younger pupils develop their ICT abilities, whether it’s through guiding them in practical tasks, answering questions, or providing valuable tips.
The initiative, however, is not just about teaching technical skills; it is a unique opportunity to grow the ‘soft’ skills of our 6th form pupils. By stepping up as role models, they will be enhancing their leadership abilities, practicing effective communication, and learning how to work collaboratively. It is also a great way to build empathy as they support and encourage their junior peers. Through taking the initiative and working as a team, our 6th form ICT ‘champions’ will gain confidence and real-world experience that will benefit them beyond the classroom.
As a mentor, their presence will make a difference, and they will be helping to foster a positive, supportive learning environment. This experience not only strengthens their own skill set but also contributes to a collaborative school community where everyone can thrive.
All mentors were presented with their ICT Mentor badge. Pictured with our sixth form mentors are the Head of ICT (Mr McDaid) and Vice Principal (Mrs Heaney)
