Helping our Dominican Family in Myanmar
In 2018, as a way of recognising the 50th anniversary of boys joining our school community in 1968, it was decided to support a Dominican School in Myanmar as part of our school charity work over the past four years. Again in the 2022-23 school year, we have decided to continue to support our sister school in Myanmar by recognising it as one of our four main charities.
We have witnessed a serious situation unfold in Myanmar over recent months and continue to pray for the safety and well-being of all the people of Myanmar and want to help provide the basics of food, water and education for Dominican students in this war –ravaged part of the world.
Fr. Gerard Francisco Timoner III, OP, The Master of the Order, has sent us this recent update on Dominican education in Myanmar and wishes to thank us for all of our efforts in helping at such a stressful and perilous time.
He writes, “We encourage you to publicize the Month of Peace to mark our solidarity with our Dominican Family in Myanmar, and to engage members of the Family within your entity, schools, parishes, other institutions, and friends. Please pray each week for our sisters and brothers in Myanmar who continue to face threat to their lives daily. We ask that you remember our sisters and brothers in Ukraine who also continue to face life-threatening situations and destruction of property.”
Included here are his full letter and a newsletter providing an update on the current situation in Myanmar.
He has also provided links for ways for Dominican schools and students to access materials both updating them on the Myanmar situation and to allow them to reflect during this season of Advent.
