Huge congratulations to all our Netball teams at the end of our most successful season in the history of the school. This was the first year that the school has competed across all the A and B leagues – often coming up in the former against schools almost twice our female population; it was also the first time in our school history that our teams have won across all age ranges at both A and B level.
In the past two terms our girls have successfully competed in the Coleraine & District netball schools leagues. The leagues are now finished and results for Dominican are as follows:
- Dominican College Winners of Minor A League
- Dominican College Winners of Minor B League
- Dominican College Winners of Junior A League
- Dominican College Winners of Junior B League
- Dominican College Winners of Intermediate A League
- Dominican College Winners of Intermediate B League
- Dominican College Winners of Senior League
This is the first time the school has won every league and we are very proud of the large number of girls who are playing netball every week and the commitment they have shown.
Mr Lynch awarded our Year 8, minor and senior netballers at today’s assembly and extolled the virtues mentally and physically of taking part in school sports, particularly school team sports and he praised their dedication, commitment and success at all levels this season.
We are also indebted to Mrs Park, Head of PE, for her vision, commitment and dedication in preparing these teams week in and week out to compete and succeed at the highest levels.
Speaking at today’s assembly, Mrs Park praised the commitment of her teams who consistently meet up three times weekly to train. Present today were pupils from our Year 8 and 9 teams captained by Molly Smyth Abby Connolly and Niamh Holden as well as our Senior team captained by Emma Park, Year 14.
Mrs Park is pictured today with three of her team captains and by all the members of the Year 8, Minor and Senior League. On Thursday’s assembly this week we will celebrate the success of our Year 10 A and B teams as well as our Year 11 and 12 netballers when we award the medals and trophies to our junior and intermediate teams.
