Developing the Whole Child

Vicky is an outstanding Student!

Well done to Vicky Mafundirwa from Year 12. Vicky completed her OCN RE course in less than one school year and was nominated by Miss Rainey her teacher for an OCN Learning Endeavour Award. Vicky arrived with us in the autumn of 2022 from Zimbabwe and has impressed all staff with her fabulous work ethic.

On Monday this week Vicky was highly commended in the School’s Learner Award at the OCN Learning Endeavour Awards ceremony at Titanic Belfast! There was only one winner in each category and two highly commended, so she is delighted. Vicky had been shortlisted from 19 nominations.

As a result of her commendation Vicky has just received news today that she is to receive a £500 bursary.

Mr Lynch, Dominican Principal described his delight at Vicky’s award and bursary describing her as:

“An absolutely exemplary Dominican student who has inspired us all this year with her work ethic, kindness and success. I am thrilled that her endeavours have been recognised not only by her teachers within Dominican College but also beyond the school by OCN and I know that the bursary she has been awarded will really help her plan her future education and I really look forward to welcoming her back to sixth form next year and I have no doubt that she will continue to excel.”

Vicky is pictured with Mr Lynch, Ms Rainey and Ms Thompson receiving her cheque.

She is also pictured receiving her award from Mr Martin Flynn from OCN

She is also pictured with her mum, dad and younger brother at Monday’s Ceremony.

Very well done, Vicky from everyone at Dominican College.

Her parents are very proud of her and wish to pass on their thanks to all the staff who have supported Vicky in her first year at Dominican. We are all very proud of her also- a fabulous achievement Vicky and thank you to Ms Rainey for recognising your efforts and nominating you.
