Dominican College Portstewart is celebrating another year of exceptional academic achievement as students received their A-Level results today, marking the culmination of years of hard work, commitment, resilience and determination.

This year’s results reflect the continued pursuit of excellence within the College, with 86% of pupils achieving three A*-C grades, 96% of pupils achieving A*-C grades, and an impressive 46% of pupils gaining the highest grades of A or A*. These outcomes demonstrate the high standards of learning and achievement that continue to characterise Dominican College and highlight the dedication of pupils and staff alike.

Principal, Mrs Ruth Oliver, paid tribute to the Class of 2026:

“We are immensely proud of the achievements of our students. These outstanding results are a testament to their hard work, perseverance and commitment throughout their studies. They have embraced every opportunity available to them and today they are reaping the rewards of their efforts. We congratulate each and every student on their success and thank our dedicated staff and supportive parents who have played such an important role in helping them achieve their ambitions.”

Excellence Across a Broad and Balanced Curriculum

As in previous years, almost all subjects are in excess of Northern Ireland averages for Grammar Schools at A Level.

Students achieved highly across a diverse curriculum, with strong performances recorded in STEM subjects, humanities, languages, creative and performing arts, and vocational qualifications. The results reflect the College’s commitment to providing an inclusive and ambitious curriculum that enables every young person to flourish and achieve their potential. This broad pattern of success demonstrates the strength of teaching and learning across the College and its unwavering focus on meeting the aspirations of all learners.

Ready for the Next Chapter

Armed with their results, students are now looking forward to the next stage of their journey. Over 90% of leavers have secured places on university courses, with the majority securing their first-preference course. Higher-level apprenticeships, further education and employment pathways also remained popular alternatives. As always, the success of our students is measured not only by examination outcomes but by their readiness to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

More Than Academic Success

Whilst celebrating academic excellence, the College also recognises the significant contribution this year group has made to school life. Throughout their time at Dominican College, students have distinguished themselves through participation in sport, music, drama, leadership, charitable initiatives and community service. Their willingness to contribute to the wider life of the College has enriched our community and embodied the Dominican values of Truth, Responsibility, Respect, Kindness, Justice and Faith.

Mrs Ruth Oliver added:

“Today is first and foremost a celebration for our students and their families. We thank parents for their unwavering support throughout their children’s educational journey and acknowledge the exceptional commitment of our teachers and support staff who continually go above and beyond to ensure young people receive the highest quality educational experience. Together, they have created the conditions in which our students can thrive and succeed.”

Looking to the Future

As each of young people prepare to embark upon new adventures, Dominican College remains immensely proud of all they have accomplished. Beyond the grades achieved, they leave having developed the knowledge, skills, confidence and values that will enable them to make a positive contribution to society.

Reflecting on the achievements of the year group, Mrs Ruth Oliver concluded:

“Our hope is that each young person leaves Dominican College not only with excellent qualifications but with happy memories, lasting friendships and a strong sense of purpose. We are confident that they will continue to achieve great things and make a positive difference wherever their futures take them. We wish them every happiness, success and blessing in the years ahead.”

Congratulations to all our A Level students on their outstanding achievements. Dominican College Portstewart looks forward with pride to seeing the many successes that undoubtedly lie ahead for the Class of 2026.
