KS3
In KS3, as stated by the Department of Education, all pupils follow the compulsory Physical Education Curriculum. This includes games ( Football, Netball, Gaelic Football, Camogie, Hockey and Badminton), Gymnastics, Swimming(when available) and Athletics.

We offer two options in Sport at Level 2

PEARSON BTEC Level 2 FIRST AWARD in SPORT
Year 11 and 12 pupils study the Pearson Specification, and this subject is equivalent to one GCSE. Pupils are awarded grades Distinction * – Pass.

Unit One: CORE Fitness for Sport & Exercise |
This unit is assessed by online external exam. Pupils explore fitness requirements, components of fitness and training methods. Pupils participate in a series of fitness tests. |

Unit Two: CORE Practical Performance in Sport |
This unit is assessed by teacher assessed tasks. Pupils will develop their knowledge of the regulations, rules, skills & techniques of two sports. Pupils perform and review their own performance. This unit also looks at the roles of officials. |

Unit Three: CORE Training for Personal Fitness |
This unit is assessed by teacher assessed tasks. Pupils will design a personal fitness training programme and learn about factors of exercise. |

Unit Six: Leading Sports Activity |
This unit is assessed by teacher assessed tasks. Its focus is sports leadership. Pupils will plan, organise and deliver a sports session to Year 8 pupils, evaluate the lesson and produce a personal development plan. |

Video evidence is compulsory for units 2 ,3 and 6. Pupils taking BTEC Sport must be regularly competing in a team sport.

OCN NI Level 2 Certificate in SPORT

This course is the equivalent to one GCSE (Grade B).
Pupils complete 16 credits made up of a number of projects (2 modules) over the 2-year course. Pupils complete Unit 1 and then either 2 or 3.

This unit is assessed by assignments. Pupils will develop their knowledge and skills required for different career pathways in the sports industry. Learners will take part in, and reflect on, a personal skills audit, career action plan and practical interview assessment activities. |

Unit Five: Application of Fitness Testing |
This unit is assessed by assignments. Pupils will gain an understanding of the requirements of fitness testing and learn how to safely conduct a range of fitness tests for different components of fitness. |

Career Opportunities
Both Level 2 and Level 3 Sport courses provide an excellent foundation for further study and equip pupils with the managerial, leadership, organisational, decision-making and practical skills which are vital in a wide range of careers in both the public and private sectors.
DCP students who have completed these courses have gone on to further study in:
Sport, Physical Education, Sports Science, Law, Primary Education, Post Primary Education, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Business, Journalism, Nutrition, Dietetics, Marketing, Advertising and Events Management. Three students have gone to study in the USA on scholarships in Athletics, Football and Golf.
