Congratulations to Oliver Knox, class of 2024 student at Dominican College, who has just received a prestigious award based on his great success on his Science A Level results. Oliver has just completed his first semester studying Medicine at Magdalene College, Cambridge.
Last weekend, Oliver along with his proud family and Science teachers from Dominican College attended the Ulster Scientists Trust Annual Awards Ceremony in The Ulster Museum, Belfast.
In the “Future Paths for Future Scientists” Competition, Oliver won the second prize overall and was presented with a certificate and cheque for £300 from Prof. Alan Fitzsimmons from the Astrophysics Research Centre at QUB. The Trust awards prizes annually to the top candidates in the combined subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in their A Level Examinations.
Oliver achieved 4 A* grades in his Maths, Biology, Physics and Chemistry at A Level following on from his amazing GCSE results in 2022.
His overall Science results were the second highest in NI this year and Oliver described how he is, “Delighted and really, really proud to have achieved this lifelong dream of pursuing a medical degree particularly in such a prestigious college as Magdalene, Cambridge. I would like to thank all the staff at Dominican College and particularly my family for helping me achieve this goal.
The award from The Ulster Scientists Trust was a lovely surprise and a great start to 2025 as I prepare to head back to second semester at Cambridge.”
Commenting on Oliver’s success Mrs Ruth Oliver, Dominican Principal commented,
“I am very proud of all that Oliver has achieved to date in his academic studies beyond Dominican College and I have no doubt that a successful career in Medicine awaitshim and it was a joy to be able to celebrate ths Ulster Scientists Trust Award with Oliver and his mum, dad, sister Emily and teachers.
