Dominican College Portstewart marked a significant milestone on Saturday, January 18th, with the resounding success of its Open Morning event. With over 900 attendees from across the region, the sold-out, ticketed event offered an engaging and insightful glimpse into the exceptional educational opportunities the school provides.
The event was also noteworthy as it marked the first Open Morning overseen by the school’s new principal, Mrs. Ruth Oliver, who took up her position earlier this academic year. Under her guidance, Dominican College demonstrated its ethos of academic excellence, pastoral care, and community engagement to pupils and parents from over 35 primary schools.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Oliver shared her vision for the school and her excitement about stepping into her new role. “Today is a celebration of everything that makes Dominican College special. Our outstanding staff and talented students have worked tirelessly to showcase the vibrant, welcoming environment we offer,” she said. “It has been heartening to see such enthusiasm from prospective families, and we are proud to be a school where every student is supported to achieve their full potential.”

The Open Morning included a range of interactive activities, performances, and presentations designed to immerse visitors in the school’s diverse curriculum and extracurricular offerings. Families had the chance to explore the modern facilities, meet dedicated teachers, and hear directly from current students about their experiences at Dominican College.

One visiting parent commented, “The sense of community here is incredible. It’s clear that the staff truly care about their students, and the pupils themselves are a credit to the school.” Another attendee praised the school’s emphasis on both academic rigor and personal growth, saying, “You can see that this is a place where children are encouraged to thrive in every sense.”

Mrs. Oliver expressed her gratitude to the Dominican College community for their contributions to the day’s success. “I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful staff, who have gone above and beyond to organize this event, and to our students, whose enthusiasm and pride in their school have shone through,” she said. “The energy and positivity today are a testament to the values we hold dear at Dominican College.”

The event also highlighted the school’s strong connections with the local community, underscoring its commitment to nurturing young talent from diverse backgrounds. Many attendees left feeling inspired by the school’s inclusive approach and impressed by its high standards of teaching and learning.

Dominican College’s Open Morning 2025 has set the tone for a promising year ahead under Mrs. Oliver’s leadership. As the school continues to build on its rich history and tradition, this memorable day reinforced its reputation as a centre of excellence in Portstewart and beyond.
