Uniform Policy

Dominican College Uniform Policy

Pupils must wear the designated school uniform including the school blazer, throughout each school day, when travelling to and from school, when representing the school and on other occasions as directed unless permission otherwise is granted by the Principal or Vice-Principal.

Uniform items should only be purchased from the official stockists.

Our Uniform Policy is currently under review.

       GIRLS’ UNIFORM

  • Dominican College blazer
  • Dominican College regulation jumper
  • Dominican College regulation blouse
  • Dominican College below-knee length grey kick pleat skirt *
  • Grey socks or grey or black tights
  • Plain black leather shoes – boots and suede shoes are unacceptable
  • Heels should be low (for health and safety reasons)
  • Dominican College scarf* (* optional item)
  • * From September 2024 girls have the option of wearing girls’ regulation black school trousers

             BOYS’ UNIFORM

  • Dominican College blazer
  • Dominican College regulation jumper
  • Grey shirt for years 8, 9 and 10.
  • White shirt for years 11, 12, 13 and 14
  • Dominican College regulation tie
  • Black regulation school trousers which are regular fit and not worn above the ankle
  • Black jeans or chinos are not acceptable.
  • Skinny fit trousers are not acceptable
  • Black regulation socks (not trainer socks or ankle socks)
  • Black leather shoes (not trainers or suede)

                       

  • All items of uniform must be clearly and permanently marked with the owner’s name.
  • Pupils must be clean, neat and tidy.
  • Skirts must be below knee length and not above the knee.
  • Shoes must be plain black leather with flat heels and no coloured trim. Trainers are not an acceptable alternative to shoes.
  • Hair must be clean, neat and tidy and of an acceptable style and colour.
  • Boys must be clean-shaven.
  • Visible tattoos, nose rings and body piercings are not permitted.
  • Hair accessories should not be strictly decorative; hair bands should be discreet and preferably in school colours.
  • A watch, one pair of plain stud earrings and a signet ring are the only permitted items of jewellery.
  • Make up, fake tan, nail varnish or artificial nails should not be worn.
  • Wearing of non-uniform items by pupils is not permitted.
  • Pupils should have an appropriate bag for the safe storage of their own and school property.  Handbags are not a suitable alternative and are not permitted.

There is a special Dominican College pullover for Sixth Formers.

Dominican College PE Uniform

All pupils must wear the following items of the PE Uniform when doing PE in school or taking part in extra-curricular sports:

  • Dominican College PE top,
  • Dominican College PE shorts or Dominican College skort,
  • Sports Trainers,
  • Socks.
  • For the 2023-24 school year all pupils will be required to have football boots for taking part in PE

The PE kit should be carried to and from school in a PE bag.

The following PE Items are not compulsory but many pupils choose to have them:

  • The Dominican College PE Hoodie
  • Tracksuit bottoms

Additional Information on Uniform

Trainers are not an acceptable form of school shoe.

Pupils must not wear any branded trainer including Vans, Converse, DCs, Nike, Adidas as part of their school uniform.

During the Autumn and Summer term, the Principal may allow pupils not to wear their school jumper.

In this case pupils must ensure:

The blazer must still be worn,

Hoodies must not be worn in place of the jumper,

The school shirt/blouse should be tucked in neatly.

The Principal, Vice-Principal and Senior Teachers will carry out regular uniform checks.

Year Heads and Form teachers will check that pupils are wearing the full regulation uniform at morning registration and assembly.

Class teachers will carry out uniform checks as pupils enter and leave classrooms.

Pupils wearing non-uniform items will be asked to remove them and all non-uniform items will be confiscated.

In the case of repeated uniform violations pupils will be detained in line with detention policy.

Persistent and deliberate violations of the uniform policy will be dealt with by the Principal and SLT.
